I heard something like “In one year, you’ll be the same person you are today outside of the books you read and the people you know.” I’m sure that I’ve butchered that tremendously. And yes, our experiences play a huge role in shaping us. The point was more in regards to skill set, job, positions, and most importantly, effectiveness. The people you know and what you learn play a great deal in shaping us. If you’re not meeting new people or learning anything new, where does that put you at this time next year? Probably right in the same spot.
So, here’s what I’m reading now. I’d love to hear what you’re reading (always looking for something new to read). I’m taking a leadership development class, and that has me reading these:
- The Making of a Leader
- The Ascent of a Leader
- The Missional Leader
- Leadership Without Easy Answers
- Surfing the Edge of Chaos
Then at home, I have a stack of books that I’m working through:
- Cognitive Surplus
- Switch
- Quitter
- The Man Who Lied to His Laptop
This should keep me busy for a little while. (Then on the side I’m also experimenting with some web design stuff, continuing working with SEO, and whatever else fun comes my way. Now I’m trying to figure out how I’m doing all this… I guess not very well.)
So, what are you reading?
