When was the last time you Googled someone to find out a little more about them? Most likely either looking up an old friend, or looking to find out more about a business associates, usually before meeting them. People are Googling you, and you had better know what they’re seeing.
Today, I looked up an old acquaintance to see if there was anything new going on with him. What showed up at the top of the search results? A Google listing with his name, personal address and (unlisted) home phone number. Chances are, he never Google himself and never saw this listing in Google. If he had, he would have worked to have it removed. But there it was, right at the top of the search results.
Another acquaintance has as the number one result not a personal website or social media listing, but a third part website where someone was excessively slandering her. She had no control over this, and wouldn’t know it was there unless she was told by someone else or if she Googled herself.
You need to know what other people are seeing and deal with it before they see it. There may not be any arrest records (these are common to see when Googling someone’s name), but there may be things that you aren’t aware are available, including personal information.
Do yourself a favor, do a quick Google search of yourself. More than likely, your results are okay.
And, if you see anything that you think needs to be addressed, let me know. I’d be glad to point you in the right direction.
