So, I started tinkering with Google+ for a little bit. It does work well with Google Chrome, and the Android App isn’t too bad. I like the way that it does some of what Facebook does, only better. Instead of putting friends into lists, you put them into circles. With one click, you see only groups that you want to see posts from, or post and allow only certain people to see them. I know that Facebook was trying to do some of that as well, but it’s clunky and difficult. You can also do group chats, video, and more stuff that I probably don’t know about yet. I haven’t bothered for too long. I do like that I can automatically sync any picture or video from my phone to the site automatically, as soon as they’re taken. I don’t have to click anything to choose which pictures, unless I want to, or click something to make it start.
It kind of stinks without the masses on it yet though. It’s nice to figure out and play with, but I can only do that for so long without a lot of result yet. There’s a couple of people, but less than 10% of my network on Facebook or Twitter. So, interaction is limited. The other problem is that I remember what happened with Google Wave. I understand why that stopped being supported and dropped off the face of the earth, and I’m fine with that. I just don’t want to invest time into this either if it’s going to disappear before long.
So, Google+ is getting the wait and see. If anyone has found any uses for it that are particularly helpful or interesting though, please let me know. If it’s just another social network on top of Facebook and Twitter, I’m not sure that I can handle that. It’s why I haven’t jumped on to tumblr, digg, stumbleupon, or anything else right now, no matter how cool they may be.
