This was an awesome article today from Zen Habits. I highly recommend you go and read it now.
If you’re like me, you do this all the time. You have a handful of people who’s stuff you check out, or you go on twitter and you hear about someone’s cool setup, or whatever. We all have a way of making our own stuff sound awesome when we want to. That means when you hear about someone else’s, it sounds cooler than it really is, but we want to try anyway. And we wind up with a collection of stuff that we don’t need anyway. All the while, we wind up doing less of what we should be doing because we’re trying to be somebody else.
Take the time to be creative and refresh, certainly. Experiment, and block out time for it. But don’t get caught in the trap of being something you’re not. Don’t get caught spending all of your time chasing and none of your time being. Even when you find something you love, the next will always be right around the corner. Don’t look for contentment in the wrong places.
(Oh, and while you’re taking a break reading blogs, don’t forget to change your wallpaper for the month. Curious, what are you using now?)
