Okay, so most people know the story about this video now. Chick is at the mall, texting while walking, and falls into a fountain. I’m posting it again here because it’s still funny. At least it used to be.

Well,it was kind of funny. Then she started talking about an attorney. Let’s recount some things:
1. This woman wasn’t hurt, she walked away right away.
2. She was gone, security couldn’t get there right away (arguably she was gone so security couldn’t get to her.
3. She shouldn’t have been embarrassed. Nobody knew who she was (you couldn’t see from the camera) until she started talking to every media outlet.
4. She’s already in court accused of theft and fraud from 2009.
5. You can see that right before hitting the fountain, her steps change, both in the distance and the height she lifted her leg as if she was expecting it
6. Bottom line, she was the one texting and walking. No one else did anything.
This week I re-read Question Behind the Question. It’s an excellent book based on the concept of personal accountability. The premise is to stop asking “why” and “they” questions, and start asking “What,” “How,” and “I” questions. The focus changes from everyone else and what they did (victim thinking) and back to what I can do to fix things and make them better. When we stop taking responsibility, we become just like this woman. Please don’t do that.
